Local businesses working together to give back

Blaenymaes Primary School

The Project in a Nutshell:

Swansea Bay Foundation is delighted to award a grant to Blaenymaes Primary School for the creation of school-based allotments that bring pupils, parents, carers, and the wider community together through food, gardening, and learning. Each class will have their own raised bed, and families will be invited to take part in planting, tending, harvesting, and cooking healthy meals together using the produce they’ve grown. This hands-on, collaborative initiative will promote healthy eating, sustainability, and stronger school–community connections.

    Why This Matters:

This is a project rooted in growth – not just of vegetables, but of confidence, curiosity, and community. By working side-by-side in the allotments, pupils will gain practical knowledge in science, sustainability, and nutrition, while developing teamwork and responsibility. At the same time, parents and local residents will come together in a shared space, building relationships, sharing skills, and addressing food insecurity with locally grown, nutritious produce.
It’s a simple idea with powerful impact: healthy food, stronger connections, and long-term learning. We’re proud to support Blaenymaes Primary in planting the seeds of a more resilient and connected community.
