Local businesses working together to give back

Glynneath Heritage, Arts and Visitor Centre

The Project in a Nutshell

Swansea Bay Foundation is proud to support the “Summer Spaces” initiative by the Glynneath Heritage, Arts and Visitor Centre, a registered charity based in a former chapel with deep community roots. Building on the success of their winter warm spaces programme, this summer extension provides free weekly sessions for older and vulnerable residents, offering a warm meal, social activities, gentle exercise, and crafts to support cognitive and emotional wellbeing.

Our funding helps cover the cost of meals, materials, energy, and session delivery — ensuring this valuable support continues through the summer months.

Why This Matters

For many local residents, especially those living alone or on limited incomes, this project is a lifeline of companionship, nourishment, and purpose. With attendees ranging in age — including one visitor aged 94 — these sessions help combat loneliness, food poverty, and declining mental health.

By turning a historic community building into a hub for social connection, wellbeing, and cultural enrichment, this project embodies grassroots care in action. Swansea Bay Foundation is proud to help sustain such a welcoming, inclusive space where people feel supported, valued, and connected to their community.
