Grovesend and Waungron Community Council

The Project in a Nutshell:

Swansea Bay Foundation is proud to support Grovesend and Waungron Community Council’s Afternoon Tea ‘Street Party’, a special community celebration marking the 80th anniversary of VE Day. This intergenerational event brings together residents, children from Pengelli Primary School, and the local care home for an afternoon of music, games, conversation, and remembrance.

Our funding has helped cover the cost of a singer, refreshments, decorations, memorabilia, and prizes — creating a welcoming and meaningful celebration for all who attend.

    Why This Matters:

This event is about honouring the past while uniting the present. It offers older residents, including those who may be isolated or vulnerable, the opportunity to share stories and memories, while helping younger generations understand their local history and the importance of VE Day.

By supporting this initiative, Swansea Bay Foundation is helping to strengthen community ties, celebrate local heritage, and foster a sense of connection and shared identity across generations in Grovesend and Waungron.
