Ifemeluigbo Dance and Performing Arts

The Project in a Nutshell

Swansea Bay Foundation is pleased to support Ifemeluigbo Dance and Performing Arts with their project “Cultural Steps: Igbo Dance Experience.” This exciting summer workshop invites young people aged 16+ from across Swansea to learn traditional Igbo dance and African performance styles. Over 12 sessions, participants will explore storytelling through movement, build confidence, and rehearse for future cultural events and festivals in the city.

Our grant will help cover venue hire, instructor fees, and promotional materials — enabling this vibrant cultural opportunity to reach and inspire a wider audience.

Why This Matters

This project uses the power of dance, culture, and creativity to foster inclusion, self-expression, and social connection. Rooted in Igbo traditions, the workshop brings together individuals from all backgrounds to experience the joy of movement and heritage. It supports well-being, reduces isolation during the summer months, and develops valuable transferrable skills such as teamwork, communication, and resilience.

By celebrating African culture and empowering participants to perform and express themselves, Cultural Steps plays a vital role in building a more connected, confident, and culturally rich Swansea.
