Men’s Shed at Swansea MAD

The Project in a Nutshell

Swansea Bay Foundation is proud to support the Men’s Shed at Swansea MAD, a project offering a safe, inclusive space for men of all ages in Swansea to connect, build friendships, and develop new skills. Run by local charity Swansea MAD, the Shed hosts twice-weekly sessions focused on creative, social and practical activities — from woodworking and gardening to music-making, digital storytelling and heritage projects.

Our funding has helped provide essential resources including food, materials, digital access, and transport assistance, enabling Swansea MAD to continue offering this much-needed support to men facing isolation, disadvantage and mental health challenges.

Why This Matters:

The Men’s Shed is making a real difference to the lives of vulnerable men in our community — particularly those experiencing loneliness, poverty, and social exclusion. By bringing people together in a non-judgemental, welcoming environment, the project helps improve wellbeing, build confidence, and foster a sense of belonging.

This is grassroots community development at its best: member-led, responsive, and rooted in trust. Swansea MAD’s commitment to inclusion and social justice aligns closely with our own values, and we are proud to have contributed to a project that is transforming lives and strengthening the fabric of our local community.
