Mumbles Movers and Groovers
The Project in a Nutshell:
The Mumbles Movers & Groovers is a falls prevention dance group for individuals aged 60 and above. The program integrates key fitness components such as aerobic exercise, balance, strength, and agility through dance and movement. Unique aspects of the program include the use of colorful props, singing, Tai Chi, and meditation. Classes are inclusive, welcoming individuals with various needs. Sessions foster physical fitness, mental well-being, and social connections, providing a supportive environment for participants.
Why This Matters:
The Mumbles Movers strengthen community bonds by connecting participants physically, emotionally, and cognitively. Post-class social gatherings enhance these connections, fostering a supportive network that has helped members through personal challenges. The program promotes a sense of belonging and mutual support, essential for community cohesion. The program positively impacts the local community by improving participants’ health and reducing the strain on healthcare services. By preventing falls and related injuries, it helps decrease hospital admissions and mortality rates among older adults. This contributes to a healthier community, reducing the economic burden on the NHS and enhancing overall community well-being.
