SHIPS

The Project in a Nutshell:

SHIPS aims to offer weekly sessions to neuro-diverse individuals aged 11-14 with social anxiety. Attendees will discuss topics such as social skills, anxiety management, improving sleep, health and well-being and bullying. There will also be the opportunity to take part in a variety of activities as well as social time too. You can find out more about this new scheme on their Facebook page

    Why This Matters:

SHIPS is aimed at improving social opportunity, interactions and confidence for a group of individuals who often find themselves isolated due to lack of suitable local activities and opportunities. From experience, lots of neuro-diverse young people with social anxiety pass each other like ships in the night- they want to have friends, but struggle to manage friendships and interactions. They often struggle to find a place where they can make friends with like minded young people, so they withdraw from society. Social isolation impacts on mental wellbeing, confidence and self-esteem.
