SNAP SPECIALIST PLAY
The Project in a Nutshell
SNAP Specialist Play Charity delivers inclusive, play-based workshops for children aged 0–4 with additional needs and disabilities at Withybush Hospital and across Pembrokeshire. These playgroup sessions offer sensory play, music, storytelling, and creative activities in a safe, nurturing space designed to support early development and emotional wellbeing.
With this funding, SNAP will purchase essential sensory and play equipment – including soft play resources, communication aids, and adaptive toys – to enhance these workshops. These resources help children engage fully in play, develop key motor and communication skills, and experience joy and connection during what can often be a stressful or isolating time for families.
Why This Matters
For many families in Pembrokeshire, SNAP’s playgroups are a lifeline. Children with additional needs can often feel excluded from mainstream early years provision, and parents frequently describe feeling isolated or overwhelmed. SNAP bridges this gap by offering a welcoming, inclusive environment where children can learn and grow through play, while parents receive understanding, respite, and a sense of community.
Delivered from accessible venues within the hospital and local community, SNAP’s sessions are carefully designed to nurture confidence, communication, and creativity. They also provide valuable opportunities for families to connect with others facing similar challenges and to access wider support networks.
By funding essential sensory and play equipment, the Swansea Bay Foundation will help SNAP continue providing these vital workshops — supporting vulnerable children to reach their potential and helping families feel more connected, supported, and hopeful about the future.
