Swansea Veterans Hub CIC

The Project in a Nutshell:

Swansea Veterans Hub CIC (SVH) provides comprehensive support services for military veterans and their families, addressing financial difficulties, employment, housing, health, and well-being. Operating as a Safe, Warm Space registered with Swansea Council, SVH offers assistance with PIP and DWP issues, mental health support, and various community activities. The hub is open on Tuesdays and Saturdays, with plans to expand. Volunteers are fully trained in mental health, first aid, and safeguarding, ensuring a safe and supportive environment. SVH also supports veterans in custody, assisting them upon release and providing necessary signposting.

    Why This Matters:

Swansea Veterans Hub CIC plays a crucial role in the community by supporting veterans transitioning from military life and tackling the “revolving door” of issues they face. The hub’s efforts help reduce isolation, improve mental health, and address financial and employment challenges. By offering a non-judgmental, warm, and welcoming environment, SVH fosters community development and strengthens local relationships. The hub’s activities, including beach cleans, Saturday breakfasts, and trips funded through fundraising, enhance community cohesion. Additionally, the hub’s use of Jacks Retreat for social prescribing offers a unique and therapeutic escape for veterans and their families, promoting overall well-being and enhancing quality of life.
