The Abbey Players

The Project in a Nutshell:

We’re proud to support The Abbey Players and their landmark production Let the People Sing Cymru — a powerful collaboration between three of Swansea’s leading amateur dramatic groups: Abbey Players, Cockett Amateur Operatic Society, and Swansea Amateur Operatic Society. Together, they will stage a brand-new production of Les Misérables at Swansea Grand Theatre in July 2025 — the only performance of its kind in Wales, selected by Cameron Mackintosh as part of the musical’s 40th anniversary celebrations.

Our funding will help cover essential lighting and sound costs, supporting eight performances that promise to unite hundreds of local performers, creatives, and volunteers.

Why This Matters:

This is more than just a show — it’s a celebration of community, culture, and collaboration. By bringing together people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities, this project showcases the incredible talent across Swansea and South West Wales. It offers a unique opportunity for emerging performers to work alongside experienced theatre makers, fostering personal growth, skill development, and lifelong friendships. With inclusivity, creativity, and community spirit at its core, Let the People Sing Cymru is helping to cement Swansea’s status as a true city of culture — and we’re honoured to be part of that journey.
